About Us
We’re Samantha and Philippe, the duo behind Back Road Natural Traditions, where we handcraft all-natural soaps right from our basement in Moncton, NB. Samantha’s the one mixing, pouring, and perfecting recipes, while Phil jumps in wherever needed—cutting bars, building displays, and tackling the behind-the-scenes projects that keep everything running smoothly.
Samantha was born in the prairies of Saskatchewan and raised on the East Coast in New Brunswick, bringing a mix of country roots and coastal charm to everything she creates. Over the years, she’s developed a deep passion for herbalism and natural remedies, which led her to earn a certification in Herbalism and Natural Medicine. That love for botanicals inspired our Herbal Collection, featuring unscented soaps infused with organic herbs.
Back Road Natural Traditions started as a way to cut toxins from our home. We first experimented with homemade detergents and deodorants, and while we still make our own laundry and dishwasher detergent, we quickly fell in love with soapmaking. Now, we craft every bar using oils, honey, oats, clays, and dried botanicals—no artificial dyes, no unnecessary additives, just pure, handcrafted goodness.
In March 2025, we attended our first Spring Market—and since then, more and more people have been recognizing our soaps. We’re still a small business, mainly selling at markets, but we’re slowly growing, and this is our application to become your favorite Canadian soap!

Oh, and fun fact—along with her Herbalism and Natural Medicine certification, Samantha also has a Cosmetology License (earned in 2017), so every ingredient is chosen with both skin nourishment and science in mind!
